Natural mineral water and natural spring water
Pursuant to Article 37 of the Regulation on natural mineral and natural spring waters (“Official Gazette of BiH”, No. 26/10 and 32/12), the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has published the List of recognized natural mineral waters and natural spring waters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was published in the “Official Gazette of BiH”, No. 11/24 on 13.02.2024.

Table water
Pursuant to Article 19, paragraph (3) of the Regulation on table waters (“Official Gazette of BiH”, No. 40/10 and 43/10), the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has published the List of table waters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was published in the “Official Gazette of BiH”, No. 11/24 on 13.02.2024.

Recognition procedure
In order to implement the Ordinance on natural mineral and natural spring waters (“Official Gazette of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, no. 26/10 and 32/12), and in order for subjects in the food business to become familiar with the process of recognition of natural mineral and natural spring waters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Agency for Food Safety of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an Instruction on the process of recognition of natural mineral and natural spring waters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which you can download at this link.

In the application procedure, the applicant is obliged to pay an administrative fee. The method of filling out payment forms is prescribed by the Instructions on filling out the payment form for the payment of the administrative fee in the process of recognition of natural mineral, natural spring and table waters in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which you can download at this link.
The Commission for the Recognition of Natural Mineral and Natural Spring Waters in Bosnia and Herzegovina (“Official Gazette of BiH”, number 75/23) carries out an expert assessment of the request for the issuance of a Decision on Recognition and considers the evidence submitted by the applicant, checks the findings of the presented parameters and parametric values of the chemical and biological properties of natural mineral and natural spring waters, gives an opinion on the submitted request and submits a proposal for the adoption of the Decision to the Agency.
The Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, upon its adoption, shall submit to the competent inspection bodies the Decision on the recognition of natural mineral or natural spring water.
A food business entity that has been issued a Decision on the recognition of natural mineral or natural spring water is obliged to carry out, at its own expense, a check of the compliance of the water it exploits with the prescribed requirements in the part relating to microbiological and physical-chemical properties prescribed by the Ordinance at least once a year before bottling. In addition, the Ordinance also prescribes official controls that are within the competence of the competent inspection bodies.
If the producer or the inspection body responsible for official controls determines that the quality of natural mineral and natural spring water and the conditions under which they are exploited, produced or bottled are not in accordance with the Ordinance, the producer is obliged to suspend exploitation, or the competent inspection body shall order the suspension of production and bottling of natural mineral and natural spring water until the deficiencies are eliminated.
